This 3 hour walk gives you the opportunity as part of a small group to explore the numerous photographic opportunities outside the Olympic Park and surrounding areas.

Course Overview:

This 3 day in-depth workshop covers all aspects of shooting on the 5D as well as an in-depth look at lighting and a basic understanding of health and safety requirements.

As per the one day workshop you will go through the menu settings on the 5D so you will come away having a full understanding of the functionality of this camera. This course also provides an in-depth look at lenses, shutter speeds and frame rates.

We also cover working under different lighting conditions and provide practical training in lighting and how to light an interview situation, drama and the face. Also covered is tungsten lighting, filters and getting the most out of the natural light available.

The workshop involves classroom work as well as going out on location around the outside of the Olympic park next to our offices. 

Course Detail:

Day 1

An in-depth look at picture composition including framing and getting enough coverage for an edit.

Overview of recording formats, media management, backing up procedures and transferring files to your edit system.

File formats, compression systems and recording on external devices, this includes how to maximise picture quality.

An overview of exposure. The creative use of over and under exposure. How to ensure pictures are correctly exposed including using zebra stripes.

An overview of working with different lenses. This including using lenses for special effects.

An overview of Depth of Field. How to achieve the 'film look' and which lenses and techniques to use to do that.

The use of lens adaptors

Shot descriptions. Script abbreviations.

Eye lines, shot matching  and perspective

Interlaced or progressive. Using different shutter speeds including special effects using shutter speed.

Rigging the camera, using camera mounts and shooting hand held.

Working with audio, testing the signal path and working with various microphones and basic microphone techniques. The workshop also covers critical listening and assessing a location for audio suitability. Working with external audio recorders and how to synchronise audio in post production.

Day 2

Understanding basic lighting techniques including an overview of lighting terminology.

Working with common lights including blondes, redheads, dedo kits, LED lights etc.

Using coloured filters, tungsten or daylight.

Degrees Kelvin.

Working under low light conditions.

Maximising the natural light available, including working with reflectors.

Day3

Basic safety procedures when using lights.

Filling in risk assessment forms.

Using 3 phase power.

Practical workshop in lighting various setups including interviews and exteriors.

Practical workshop in lighting the face including music video beauty shots.

This one day workshop is for people who want to familiarise themselves with the 5D as well as learning some basic shooting techniques

This workshop will go through the menu settings of the 5D to enable you to understand the functionality of the camera. We also teach basic shooting techniques including how the camera performs under natural light and under various artificial lighting conditions.

This workshop is designed to get you up to speed on using the 5D and you will come away with the ability to shoot with it confidently. We include a look at lenses and using lens adaptors and how to achieve the 'shallow depth of field look'.  The course involves classroom work as well as going out on location around the outside of the Olympic park next to our training rooms.
