Course Overview:

You will come away with a greater understanding of how to get the best performance from your actors and have a deeper knowledge of shooting creatively using various shot compositions to enhance and compliment their performance. During this highly interactive course you will learn how to storyboard drama sequences. You will explore the process of working closely with actors to best shoot a sequence.

Scenes will be rehearsed with actors and the dramatic impact of different camera positions and shots will be explored through the understanding of who your central character is.

You will have the opportunity to see and explore first hand how the camera’s point of view can dramatically alter the feel of a scene and how workshopping scenes with actors can introduce a whole new inspiring outlook to the directing process

Course Detail:

 During this course you will learn:

  • How to analyse plot
  • Where to place your camera
  • How to workshop scene with the actors
  • Preparation and uses of the shot – reverse shot
  • Staging a scene with two actors and the use of improvisation
  • How to block a scene and frame actors
  • Blocking for a master shot in (attendees will stage a different version of the same scene)
  • Shooting a scene with one actor in which students will each choose a camera position to direct it
  • Drama workshop for the director, in which students will be introduced to actors preparation and technique
  • Script analysis with the actors
  • How to create your characters
